LADY JAGUARS GOLF LOSES TOURNAMENT

Gonzales, LA – The Southern University Lady Jaguars golf team lost for the first time since the 2002 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship. Southern came in second to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the SWAC Presidential at Pelican Point Country Club.

Southern shot a 683 to finish the tournament with a score of +107 but Arkansas-Pine Bluff was able to shoot 6 strokes less than the Lady Jaguars as they ended the tournament with a 677 score for a +101.

Junior Josephine Aniley led SU by hitting a 163 for the tournament to finish at +19, while finishing tied fifth in the tournament. Finishing 7th was senior Danielle Sells, who had a 165 for a +21. Freshman Kasarhi Franklin shot a 174 for a +30 and finish 8th, while junior Nicole Joseph had a +37 with 181 strokes to finish 11th in the tournament. Junior Brittany Bryant scored the lowest of all Lady Jaguars but still finish in the top 15 of the tournament. Standing at 13th Bryant scored a +40 with 184 strokes.

The Blue and Gold women’s team will prepare for their next tournament as they travel to Huntsville, TX to play Sam Houston State University on March 6th – 8th. The men will be in action again on March 20th – 22nd as the Jaguars, along with the Lady Jaguars will meet Texas Southern University in Lake Charles, LA.
