JAGUARS COMPLETE FIRST DAY OF GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

Alexandria, LA – The Southern University men’s and women’s golf teams completed competition in the 2005 Southwestern Athletic Conference Golf championships today but neither team played well, according to head coach Willie Williams.

“We played really bad today,” Williams said. “We’re hoping both teams pick it up tomorrow because the women only have one round left where as the men have two. The women are in third place so we just need to shoot well.”

Southern’s men shot a 320 and is currently in fifth place. They were paced by Lee Njoroge who shot a 76 and Wayne Birch who shot a 79. The Lady Jaguars finished competition in third place today by shooting a 345. They are five strokes out of second place but 22 stokes out of first. They were lead today by Josephine Ainley and Danielle Sells who ended the day shooting an 81. Nicole Joseph shot an 88 while Brittny Bryant rounded out the top 20 with her score of 95. The men’s second round begins tomorrow, with a 9:00 a.m. tee time. The womens final day of competition begins at 8:00 a.m. with trophy presentations scheduled for the end of play.
