April 23, 2006 Dustin Thompson (80, 79 and 72 for 231) shot an even par 72 on the final day to finish in sixth place, to pace the Southern Jaguars Men's Golf team to a second place finish in the 2006 SWAC Golf Championships played at the Dancing Rabbit Golf Course in Philadelphia, Mississippi. The Jackson State Tigers captured the 2006 SWAC Men's Golf Championship, giving head coach Eddie Payton's Tigers their 19th consecutive conference title. Payton, in his 20th season, has coached every JSU Tiger team which has claimed a title during the streak. JSU Tigers led all teams with a 992 score. Southern was second with a three-day total of 957 while Texas Southern finished third with a total score of 983. Southern's Patrick Phillips, shot 78, 76 and 77 to finish tied with Thompson for sixth place overall with a three day total of 231. Lee Njoroge finished 19th (85, 80 and 77 for 242).
