SOUTHERN MEN'S GOLF WINS AT PRAIRIE VIEW



Gregory Scott led all Jags with a 150 two day score.

Hempstead, Texas -- The Southern University men's golf team finished first in the Prairie View A&M University Invitational tournament.

Southern earns their second first place finish and third top three finish this season as they improve their chances for a Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship.

The Jags were led by freshman Gregory Scott who shot a 78 on the first day and an even par, 72, on the second to complete the tournament with a 150 score two strokes above par. Senior Patrick Phillips was right behind him with a 79 and a 72 for a 151 score. Sophomore Dustin Thompson ended the tournament shooting 77 on both days for 154 while freshman Brette Maynard shot an 81 and a 76 for a 157 two day score. Junior Suhailo Vally shot a 162 by ending day one with an 85 and day two with a 77.

On the year Scott leads all Jags with a 73.63 average over eight rounds of competition. Phillips is a close second with six rounds, 448 strokes, and a 74.67 average. Maynard has shot the lowest score of any Jag with a 68 during the second day of the Grambling State University Invitational.

The Jaguars will have one more tournament before the end of the semester when they travel to Savannah, GA to participate in the Savannah State Invitational.
