Baton Rouge, LA – The first day of the SWAC Tennis Challenge was a success for the Jaguars as both the men’s and women’s teams picked up their first conference wins.

The Southern men (2-5 overall, 1-0 SWAC) defeated the Tigers of Texas Southern, 4-3, while the SU women (2-8 overall, 1-0 SWAC) wrapped up the Lady Tigers of TSU, 4-0.

In the afternoon match, the Blue and Gold of Southern University went up against the Prairie View A&M Panthers and struggled with the fast serves and hard hits to drop their first SWAC contest of the season, 2-5. The SU women’s team put another “W” in the win column, to improve to (3-8 overall, 2-0 SWAC). They defeated the Lady Panthers 4-0.
