JAGUARS TENNIS ADDS TO VICTORY TOTAL

Baton Rouge, LA—The Southern University Jaguars tennis team did not need doubles play as they defeated the Nicholls State University Colonels 4-2.

            “They played well today,” said head coach Jeffery Conyers.  “We really wanted to concentrate on the singles action because the SWAC championships will heavily depend on it.”

            Southern (8-7, 6-3) was lead by Alex Hidalgo who picked up the first win for SU by defeating Nicholls Fabian LeFrance 7-5, 6-2.  Justin Worthy continued the wining streak by defeating Shaun Ranger 7-6, 6-2.  Michael Date recorded a win for SU against Denis Borisevich 7-6, 2-6, 7-6.  Last but not least, Paul DeRousselle grabbed the final victory for the Blue and Gold 6-0, 6-2 against Brandon Fredericks.

            Southern will have two more contest before they travel to Alexandria, LA to participate in the 2005 Southwestern Athletic Conference tennis championships.  On Saturday, April 9th they will travel to Lafayette, LA to take on the University of Louisiana Lafayette at 1:00 p.m.  Then on Sunday, April 10th they will challenge the University of Texas San Antonio at 11:00 a.m. in Lafayette. LA

“In these last two matches before SWAC we will look to get better,” said Conyers.  “We want to go into Alexandria and win another championship.”
