LADY JAGUARS TENNIS REPEAT AS SWAC CHAMPIONS

Baton Rouge, LA – The Southern University women’s tennis team won their eighth Southwestern Athletic Conference championship and fourth straight by defeating the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M University 4-3.       

            Southern (14-8, 4-0) dropped the doubles competition to the Lady Bulldogs who then took a 1-0 lead.  Singles match-ups came next and senior Isoke Perry came out on top in the first match 6-2, 6-1.  She defeated Alabama A&M’s Monique Jones.  Junior Tania Hicks won her match against Batsi Bvunzawabaya 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.  Junior Francisa Osedumme dropped her match versus Charlene Tsangamwe 4-6, 2-6.  Junior Jennifer Floyd picked up a win after beating Laricca London 6-1, 6-1.  Senior Kelli Nabors struggled then lost to Shaniek Pinder 2-6, 2-6.  With the score tied 3-3 senior Sarah Johnson came through for the Lady Jags and won her match 6-0, 6-1 to lead SU to the win.

            With the win Southern receives the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.  They will now await the selection show to see where they will be playing in the regionals.
