BIG INNINGS HELP LIONS PAST SOUTHERN, 17-5

March 1, 2006

The Southeastern Lions used a five-run second and fourth inning to cruise past the Southern Jaguars 17-5 on Sunday afternoon at Lee-Hines Baseball Stadium, on the Southern campus.

Gerard Gause led Southern's 11-hit attack, going 3-for-5, while Michael Gavion added two hits, including a fifth-inning triple for the Jaguars.

The Jaguars struggles continued in the field, on the mound, in the batter's box and everywhere else, according to head coach, Roger Cador.

"We are not playing very well right now, and that disturbes me. We are not getting any leadership from our older players, and we are not focusing on the game or what we a doing out there."

Southeastern outscored SU, 27-8 over the two games played over the weekend. Southeastern defeated Southern 14-3, on Friday night.

Southern is in action again on Wednesday night, in New Orleans, as the Jags battle UNO at Maestri Field at 6:30 pm.

SU will begin SWAC play this weekend, as they host the Tigers of Texas Southern University on Saturday afternoon, at 1:00 pm.
