Southern University junior pitcher, Jeremiah Shepard, has
been selected to the 2006 Southwestern Athletic Conference All-Academic Baseball
Team.
Shepard, a 6-foot-2 inch junior from Kilgore, TX, made 10 appearances for the SOuthern Jaguars in 2006, finishing the season with an 0-1 record. Shephard was mainly used in a relievers role, and pitched 19.2 innings this season striking out 12 batters. Shepard is an architechure major, and made a perfect 4.0 GPA for both the fall 2005, and the spring 2006 semesters. "Jeremiah Shephard did an excellent job in the classroom", say SU Coach Roger Cador. "He exemplifies what we want all- of our student-athletes to be -- successful in both the classroom and on the playing field." To be considered for the all-academic team, players must post a 3.0 GPA or higher in the classroom and be nominated by the school's athletic academic counselor. From that point, a pool of candidates is formed by the conference office with the team being comprised of players with the top nine GPAs.
