SOUTHERN BASEBALL ANNOUNCES SIGNEES

Southern University head baseball coach, Roger Cador, has announced the signing of nine baseball student-athletes for the 2006-07 school year.

"We concentrated on some needs this recruiting season, and were able to sign some top-quality players for next season," says Cador. "We got some good arms and a coupel of cartchers that we feel can come in and contribute right away", added Cador.

Heading the list is: Cedric Hunter (6-0, 190, OF, Martin Luther King HS, Decatur, GA) who is currently listed on Baseball America's top 100 list at 59. Hunter batted .565 with 12 home runs, 21 rbi's and 20 stolen bases this past season. He also walked 28 times, while striking out a mere two times. He also had a staggering 1.160 slugging percentage.

Baron "BK" Short (6-4, 210, RHP, Pearl River, Ms., Pearl River CC)
Is a solid pitching prospect that has a variety of pitches and can put batters on the bench with his out pitches. Originally signed with Alcorn State before going the Junior College route.

Greg Whitfield Milton Barney (5-10, 175, INF, Biloxi HS, Biloxi, Ms.)
A first team All-State selection that batted .489 with eight home runs 12 doubles, six triple and 40 rbi this past season. He also had nine stolen bases and a .989 slugging percentage. Considered a solid infield prospect for the Jags.

Milton Barney (5-10, 175, INF, Gulfport HS, Gulfport, Ms.)
Another Mississippi product lured into the Jaguars' nest, as Barney was a first team All-Conference selection, and a second team All-State selection. Played in the Mississippi High School All-Star game.

Marcus Spann (6-0, 175, SS, Hattiesburg, Ms., Holmes CC)
Roger Cador was able to lure another solid shortstop prospect to SU in Marcus Spann (No relation to current Jag, Mario Spann). Batted .311 with two home runs, four doubles, and three stolen bases, this season. As a freshman, earned All-Mississippi JUCO honors. Was rated as one of the top JUCO players returning for 2005.

Michael Thomas (6-4, 195, C, Thurgood Marshall HS, Houston, Tx.)
A first team All-District selection, as well as a South All-Star game participant, Thomas batted .415 with five home runs, 13 doubles, one triple and 26 rbi's this past season. Also had a .793 slugging percentage. A player who can come right in and control the catchers spot for SU next season. A big physical athlete who can run, throw and field his position.

Christopher Crenshaw (6-4½, 220 LHP, Memphis, Tn., Southwest Tennessee CC)
Went 5-0 in 2005, with 62 strike outs in 42 innings pitched. Had an ERA of 2.90.

Christopher Anderson (5-10, 19, C, Hill College JC)
Hit .235 last season and is a solid defensive catcher who prepped at Lake Charles' Lagrange High School.

Torey Brown (6-2, 190, 2B, Starkville, Ms., Holmes CC)
Batted .284 with 12 stolen bases with 10 rbi this past season. A solid glove at second base with a good arm and has speed. Earned 3rd team All-Mississippi JUCO. Was rated as one of the top JUCO players returning for 2005.
