SOUTHERN BLOWS OUT PRAIRIE VIEW TO END REGULAR SEASON

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - Southern used an early second half run to help knock off Prairie View 66-51 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference season finale. The win improved the Jaguars to 9-9 in conference play and 10-20 overall while the Panthers finished the season at 6-12 in the SWAC and 8-21 overall.

The teams played a tight, competitive first half where neither team gained more than a four point advantage until a Geri Guillory three-pointer with 3:29 gave the Jaguars a 27-21 lead. The Panthers quickly reduced the margin to one point (26-27) with 1:46 reaming in the first period. From that point, Southern manage to outscore the Panthers 5-2 to take a 32-28 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Jaguars slowly expanded their lead to ten points (46-36) with 13:12 remaining and used an 11-2 run to go up 57-41 and put the game out of reach.

Southern's Joseph Jack had a double-double performance with 12 points and 12 rebounds while teammate Deforrest Riley-Smith led all scorers with 15 points. Johnny Cobb paced Prairie View with 10 points.

With the win, the Jags will take a season-high four game winning streak (and five of their last six) into into next week's SWAC Tournament.
