Box Score

The Southern University Jaguars woes continued Wednesday night as the Southeastern (La.) Lions outscored the Jaguars by 18 points in the first eight minutes of the game, then cruised to a 70-59 win at the FG Clark Activity Center on the campus of Southern University.

Southern matches the worst start in the program's history at 0-10 (2001-02 team also started 0-10).

SLU bolted to a 21-3 lead in the first eight minutes, with the Jaguars shooting 1-for-9 and turning the ball over seven times, before SU coach Rob Spivery benched starting players and went with the youth of the team to try and kickstart the Jags.

The combination of Chris Davis, Geri Gallery, Joe Holliday, Douglas Scott and Chike Ekwoezer sparked the Jags as they cut into the Lions lead.

Douglas Scott's putback got Southern within 27-21 with 3:58 left until halftime, but the Jags went scoreless over the final two minutes, and Southeastern took a 37-23 lead into halftime.

Southeastern took over in the second half where they left off in the first, scoring the first seven points and going ahead 48-25. The Lions had leads of up to 23 points on the Jaguars, and SU could only get withIN 11 points, with 22 seconds remaining.

Sophomore guard Steffon Wiley led SU with 12 points and three steals, while Douglas Scott had 12 points and nine rebounds

Southern will be back in action hosting Louisiana Tech, in a rematch of last Saturday's game, at 7 p.m. Saturday at the FG Clark Activity Center.
