Alabama A&M's Ulysses Banks opened Saturday's game
with a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and the Bulldogs overcame a fourth
quarter deficit to rally for a critical 28-21 victory over Southern.
AAMU outscored the Jaguars 14-0 in the fourth quarter, and the A&M defense held Southern on downs inside its own territory within the final minute of play, to secure the win. SU fell behind 14-0 early, thanks to Banks' return and an interception from SU's CJ Byrd on Southern's first play from scrimmage. AAMU capitalized on the turnover with a 12-play, 55 yard drive capped by a Kelcy Luke 17-yard touchdown run. Southern scrapped back and tied the game by halftime, and took the lead three plays into the second half on a 49-yard scoring scamper by Kendall Addison. A&M would answer with a pair of scores in the fourth quarter. Kevin Francis tied the game with a four-yard reception from Luke at 12:12, and Emmanuel Edwards broke a screen pass open for a 37-yard deciding score at 6:19. Alabama A&M dominated the time of possession 37:19 to 22:41. The Jaguars managed an impressive 209 yards on the ground, 107 of them by Kendall Addison. Ta'mar Scott led the A&M ground attack with 98 yards on 18 carries. CJ Byrd completed 10 of 15 passes for 94 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, Johnathan Malveaux led the Jaguar defense with
11 tackles and an interception. Jarmaul George had 10 tackles and Michael Williams
picked off his third pass of the season.
