BATON ROUGE - Bryant Lee threw four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores in Southern's 56-7 victory against winless Texas Southern on Saturday afternoon at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas. Lee had a hand in six of the eight touchdowns for Southern (7-2, 5-2 Southwestern Athletic). He completed 12 of 18 passes for 248 yards without an interception and rushed for 72 yards on seven carries. The scoring started on Southern's first play from scrimmage, when Lee found and on Del Roberts for an 80-yard touchdown pass. Roberts finished the game with two catches for 123 yards. Lee's other scoring tosses were 14 and 10 yards to Roshon Jacobs and 11 yards to Darren Coates, who added another touchdown on a 4-yard run. Special teams also played a big part of the game, as SU's Albert Turner had 119 kickoff return yards, including a 70 yard return. Anthony Wells also blocked a TSU punt in the endzone as SU got two points for a safety. Texas Southern (0-9, 0-8 Southwestern Athletic) had four turnovers. Southern finished the afternoon with 435 total yards, while
holding the TSU Tigers to 253.
Defensively for SU, Johnathan Malveaux led the "Dog Day D" with 11 tackles, while Jarmaul George had eight. Efe Osawemwenze had eight tackles as well, along with one interception, his fourth of the season, tying him with George for team lead. Brian Lewis also had eight tackles for Southern. Cornelius Harmon led the TSU offense in place of an injured Tino Edgecombe, and completed 24 of 45 attempts for 197 yards and two interceptions. Running back Jeff Bell rushed for 56 yards on 12 carries. Brian Haith had seven catches for 71 yards and Michael Anderson had five catches for 71 yards. On defense for TSU, Lamar Herron led the Tiger defense with six tackles with Willie Blankey adding five tackles (3 solo), a sack for five yards and two tackles for loss. Lonnie Carr, Tristeon Moore and David Knighten each had five tackles. The Jags will travel to Pine Bluff, Arkansas next week to face off with the Golden Lions of Arkansas- Pine Bluff at 4:00 pm at Golden Lion Stadium on the UAPB campus. |
