The Southern Jagaurs have now completed their 2006 football schedule with the announcing of the finalization of the Prairie View A&M game. All games have now been times, and with the exception of hte Bayou Classic, all games now have a solid place to play. Southern will take on Prairie View A&M University at 1:00
PM at Darrell Tully Stadium, in Houston, Texas, September 16th. Reliant Stadium will be used Sept. 16 for a game between Rice and defending national champion Texas, while Grambling will face Houston at Robertson Stadium. Rice Stadium, where Southern played Texas Southern in 1997, is in the same vicinity as the University of Houston, and is unoccupied that night, but a deal could not be worked out,, says PVAMU Atheltic Director, Charles McClelland. Prairie View, whose Blackshear Stadium holds only 6,000, also considered shifting the game to the Alamodome in San Antonio, but Texas A&M is playing Army there that night. Tully Stadium has 15,000 aluminum seats and an Astroturf playing surface. "It's a very good venue, has all the amenities," PVAMU's Charles McClelland said. "It's obviously bigger and better than the one at Prairie View." "We know we'll have about four or five thousand less, but we expect to sell out," McClelland said. McClelland said ticket sales will be split evenly between the schools, with pre-sale tickets available at Southern.
