The Game: The Southern Jaguars will try to put a tough week behind them, as they finally arrive back in the frinedly confines of AW Mumford Stadium for the homer opener, facing off with the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State.

The game will be played as scheduled, although Southern officials will continue to monitor Hurricane Ike's projected paths. If anything changes regarding the game, an announcement will be made in plenty of time. As the city of Baton Rouge continues to recover from Hurricane Gustav, the Jags will try to get back to a week of normalcy after minimal practices in Baton Rouge and in Nashivlle before the John Merritt Classic. As the Jags started back in routine this week, debris still littered the campus and practice fields, as the filming scafolding resemblerd a twisted lego set from the massive winds and rain that pounded the capital city. Much of the city is still without power. The classes resumed on Monday at the Baton Rouge campus.

Southern is coming off of a heartbreaking 32-34 loss to hands of the Tennessee State Tigers last week, in the john Merritt classic in Nashville, TN.

Mississippi Valley State was idle last week, after beating Texas College 38-0 on August 30th. They are seeking their first 2-0 start since 2005.
