The road to Birmingham, AL and the SWAC Championship begins this week as the Southern Jaguars hit the road for the third time this season and their first SWAC contest, when they travel to "The Reservation" to take on the Braves of Alcorn State University at 5:00 pm. This is the first ever night game involving the two schools.

The SU-Alcorn State matchup has been a thorn is the side of the Jags for the past few years, as the Braves had taken four of the last five versus Southern until SU's 14-10 win last season in Baton Rouge.

Southern is coming off of a bye week, and last defeated Mississippi Valley state, 49-7 in the friendly confines of AW Mumford Stadium for the homer opener.

Alcorn State is coming off of a 13-3 win over Ark-Pine Bluff last Thursday night at Alcorn State.
