One of the longest running and most fiercest battles will take place "on the bluff" this weekend when the Southern Jaguars play host to the Florida A&M Rattlers in AW Mumford Stadium. These two teams have produced some classic battles, and the on-campus battle resumes Saturday. Due to scheduling, this could be the last game between the two schools for some time to come. PETE RICHARDSON and Joe Taylor are no strangers, as they have met on the opposite sidelines in the CIAA and when they both moved up to the FCS level (formerly I-AA) as the Jags met the Hampton Pirates on several occasions in the regular season and Heritage Bowl. The Jags and Rattlers are two of the top three winningest HBCU programs in the nation, with FAMU winningest 536 games and the Southern Jaguars 529 games. These two team hooked up in Birmingham, AL last season to kickoff the 2007 campaign with the Jags scoring a 33-27 win over the Rattlers in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge. It was the SWAC's first win over the MEAC in the Challenge game. The Jags will enter this contest having won four straight, while the Rattlers come into the contest on a one game winning streak.
