Baton Rouge, LA - The Southern University women's basketball team lost to the Lady Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 54-48 on Saturday night. Danny Evans, the current head coach of UAPB and former women's assistant coach at Southern is now 3-2 versus his former boss. Southern (4-10, 2-3 SWAC was led by senior Indi Johnson who scored 18 points, to lead all scorers. This is the seventh time this season Johnson has scored double digits. Red-shirt freshman Freda Allen recorded second double double of the year by grabbing 12 rebounds and scoring 10 points. Allen also ended the game with three assists and a block. "Freda played a helluva game. Indi had a great offensive output," head Sandy Pugh said. "Aside from those two, I don't think we did anything else." The Blue and Gold outscored the Lady Lions 31-27 in the second half but it was the 17 points they scored in the first that hurt them. "We have to score the ball, if we don't than we lose," said Pugh. The win is the first Southwestern Athletic Conference victory for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
SU will now travel to Itta Bena, MS to take on the Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University. The game scheduled for Monday, January 21st. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
