Baton Rouge, LA -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars soccer team advanced to their fourth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference soccer tournament. THE SWAC- in conjunction with the Ward 3 Recreation of Lake Charles - will hold its 2007 Soccer Tournament November 8-11, 2007 at the Lake Charles Multi-Sports Complex in Lake Charles, LA. Southern (4-12-1, 2-1-1 SWAC) is led by Charmaine Jones who has totaled four goals and three assists on the year. Senior Renell Reid also has accounted for three goals and two assists in her only season on the "bluff". Their opponent will be the Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs. When these two clubs met A&M took a 2-0 win but saves leader in the SWAC, Divinity Bradley stopped 11 shots on goal with defenders Jamika Pugh and Meghan Prodecca assisted on two others. "We only lost because we didn't score," said head coach John Knighten. "Our biggest obstacle this season is scoring a lot of goals we really depend on our defense. We decided, in preparing for A&M on Thursday, to work on our goal scoring so we will be taking shots every chance we get." Everything kicks off on Thursday, November 8th. The tournament breakdown is listed below: Thursday, November 8th - The first quarterfinal game features Prairie View A&M and Mississippi Valley State at 4:00 pm; The second quarterfinal game is a match-up between Southern University and Alabama A&M University at 6:00 pm. Friday, November 9th - Jackson State University and Grambling State University - the Eastern and Western Division winners - will await the winners from Thursday's action.
Sunday November 11th concludes the tournament and the 2007 Conference Champions will be crowned |
