Baton Rouge, LA -- For the third straight year the Southern University Lady Jaguars were defeated in the first round by the Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs 2-0 in the postseason Southwestern Athletic Conference soccer tournament. Southern (4-13-1, 2-1-1 SWAC) was out-shot by A&M by a 10-3 shot margin and used that stat to advance to second round play. The Lady Bulldogs scored in the second minute of play and then in the 16th minute. "The players played really hard and I am proud of them for that," said head coach John Knighten. "Alabama A&M was a tough opponent. They out-shot us and that's an area we have had problems with all season." The off-season and recruiting is up next for the Lady Jaguars and coach Knighten. "My main concern this off-season is to bring in people who can put the ball on the back off the net," Knighten said. We have a great defense in place with sophomores and juniors managering it so the offensive side of the ball is where I will concentrate." Southern completes their fifth year of soccer on "the bluff" and has totaled an overall record of 25-52-3. The best record of 6-5 was at the end of the first year of play in the SWAC. Their best finish is second place in the Western Division this year.
