LADY JAGUARS OPEN HOME PLAY



Jasmone Williams leads the team in batting with a .438 average.

Baton Rouge, LA - The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team will open up home play on Friday February 29th when they host the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University to a double header.

Southern (8-5, 0-0 SWAC) has played 13 games on the road participating in three tournaments. Leading the Lady Jags in batting is sophomore Jasmone Williams, whose .438 batting average after 11 games is her best start in her young career. Bethune Cookman transfer Lanaya Jenkins is currently leading the team in pitching with a 3-0 record and a 1.29 era after four plate appearances.

Ranking in the Southwestern Athletic Conference with a minimum of 42 batting appearances is freshman Chastoni Jones who is hitting .318 thus far. Super sophomore Megan Hodge is back in the top ten in pitching recording 29 strikeouts in eight plate appearances. She is currently ranked fourth in the conference listings.

The games will be played at Lady Jaguar field on the campus of Southern University. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the second game staring 30 minutes after the first. The event is free and open to the public.
