March 1, 2006 Baton Rouge, LA -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team dropped both games in double header action today versus McNeese State University Cowgirls 3-1 and 5-1. Southern (3-9) recorded their seventh straight lost of the season. The Lady Jaguars only managed two hits in the first game as the Cowgirls jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. MSU then added another run in the top of the third. Sophomore Courtney Chappell scored off of an error by McNeese's third baseman Callie Schiro. That would be the only run for the Lady Jaguars as the Cowgirls took the first game of the double header 3-1. Chappell finished the game 2-3 with one run. Senior Samisha Bledose recorded the other hit for SU ending the game 1-3. Pitcher Jamila Taylor completed her first game of the year with eight strikeouts. In the second game of the day Southern managed to double their hit performance but still couldn't produce enough runs to defeat MSU. The Cowgirls put two runs on the board in the top of the second inning then added two more in the third. Southern's lone run came by way of freshman Denean Woods who scored off of Bledose's double. McNeese then added another run in the top of the fourth to take the game 5-1. Woods finished the game 1-3 with one run. Junior Tiffini Linder, freshman Jennifer Hodrick and Bledsoe all finished the game with one hit. Hodrick completed her first game of the season after facing 32 batters.
