Alcorn State, MS - The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team finished 1-1 on Saturday, March 1st when they traveled to Alcorn State, MS and faced the Alcorn State University Lady Braves. In game one Megan Hodge recorded six strikeouts but it was the six hits and six batters that was the story as Alcorn pulled out a 1-0 victory after SU left all six runners on base. Senior Courtney Chappell and sophomore Jasmone Williams each finished 2 for 3 at the plate. In game two the offense started rolling for the Blue and Gold as they put 11 runs on the board, the fourth time this season they have put up double digit runs. Freshman pitcher Brittany Gillenwater ended the game with five strike outs. Freshman Victoria Stewart went 2 for 3 with three runs and two RBI's. Lone Junior Lauren Dodd finished the game 2 for 3 with three runs and a RBI. Freshman catcher Morgan Gillenwater (yes the pitchers sister) completed the contest with three runs and a RBI. SU won their 11th game of the season 11-2. Southern (11-6) will travel to Alexandria, LA on Tuesday, March 4th to take on Louisiana College in doubleheader action. Game time is set for 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.
