Baton Rouge, LA -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team split with the Alabama A&M University Lady Bulldogs in games three and four of their Southwestern Athletic Conference series. SU won game one 6-1 but lost game two 5-4.

Southern (10-11, 7-2) recorded seven hits in game one of today's double header. The Lady Jaguars did not score until the bottom of the third inning when they put the first two runs on the board. The Lady Jags added another run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Alabama A&M finally got on the board in the top of the seventh with their only run but it was to little to late as SU took a 6-1 win .

Pitcher Jamila Taylor finished the game allowing five hits off of 27 batters faced. She also finished 1 of 4 with one RBI. Shortstop Courtney Chappell went 3 of 4 with two RBI's. Rightfielder Samisha Bledsoe scored two runs and knocked in one while the designated hitter, Brittany Jefferson, scored twice. Catcher Brittany Richardson completed her 20th game of the season 2 of 3 with one run scored. Second basemen Denean Wood also contributed a run for Southern.

In the final game of the series SU jumped out to a 4-1 lead going into the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Bulldogs managed to get two runners on off of a hit by pitch and a single. AAMU's Wendy Buchholz came up and hit a shot into right field that was misplayed by Bledsoe. The error allowed A&M to get three runs in with another coming off of a LaRae Lucero's single. The four runs was all the ladies form Huntsville, Alabama needed as they took game four 5-4 and split the four-game series with SU.

Southern's Jefferson, Richardson and Woods each scored a run while centerfielder Tiffany Darville added the final run.

The Lady Jags will be back in action on Wednesday, March 15th when they welcome the Lady Colonels of Nicholls State University to "the bluff". Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
