LADY JAGUARS SQUEAK BY NICHOLLS

Samisha Bledsoe finished the game 2 of 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

March 15, 2006

Baton Rouge, LA -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team squeaked by the Nicholls State University Lady Colonels 5-4.

Southern (11-11, 7-2) was lead by their senior Samisha Bledsoe who finished the game 2 of 4 with one run and one run batted in. Senior Jamila Taylor allowed 11 hits, a season high, but recorded five strikeouts.

The Lady Jaguars drew first blood as the junior Tiffini Linder scored in the bottom of the second inning off of sophomore Tiffany Darville's sacrifice fly. The Lady Colonels then took a 3-1 lead after putting three runs on the board in the top half of the third. SU started to chip away at the lead by sophomore's Courtney Chappell's lone run in the fourth. Nicholls struck back with another run in the top of the fifth to stretch their lead 4-2. But the Blue and Gold never let up as they came back and scored three runs, with two outs on the board, in the seventh inning to earn their 11th win of the season.

Juniors Candice Stevens and Brittany Jefferson each finished the game with one run.

Southern will be back at home on Saturday, March 18th as they welcome the Lady Braves of Alcorn State University in a Southwestern Athletic Conference doubleheader. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
