Baton Rouge, LA - The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team is coming off their first week-end series sweep of the year by defeating Prairie View A&M. They are now ready to host McNeese State University. The Cowgirls will take on the Blue and Gold on Tuesday, March 18th. Southern (17-11, 3-0 SWAC West) was led this past weekend by senior Tiffany Darville who enjoyed one of her best week-ends finishing with a .500 batting average with three hits, three runs, three triples and three RBI's. Sophomore Megan Hodge led the way in pitching with eight strikeouts in one game versus PV. Currently Sophomore Brittany Hymes is tops in batting for the Lady Jags with a .418 average. Bethune-Cookman transfer Lanaya Jenkins is undefeated on the year with a 7-0 record but its sophomore Megan Hodge's 64 strikeouts that leads the team and ranks her third in the Southwestern Athletic Conference. SU has seen McNeese this season with the teams splitting in the Cowgirls tournament. In game one McNeese took a 2-8 win but Southern came back and pushed the second game into extra innings capturing a 10-9 victory.
The contest will be played at Lady Jaguar Field on the campus of Southern University. Game times are set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.
