March 25, 2006 Itta Bena, MS --- Two games though contrasting in style, ended with the same results as the Mississippi Valley State Devilettes sweep two games from the Lady Jaguars of Southern University in softball action today at the Devilettes Softball Complex to claim the four games series 3-1. Game one would prove the shocker of the weekend. After the two teams played two extra innings games yesterday, the Devilettes exploded for nine runs and finished off the Lady Jaguars 9-0 in five innings. Though pounding out nine hits as a team the Devilettes were led at the plate by second baseman Amber Stewart. Stewart finished two-for-three at the plate with a run scored and two RBI's. Southern's Jennifer Hodrick and Candice Stevens each picked up a hit as the Lady Jaguars only managed two hits in the ball game. On the mound Devilettes hurler Nikki Stouder recorded five strikeouts in five innings of work, while picking up the win in Valley's second shutout of the weekend. Lady Jaguars' starter Samisha Bledsoe recorded the lost as she was belted for six earned runs in three innings. Game two would quickly bring to mind the previous 24 hours as they once again found themselves in extra innings with the Devilettes emerging victorious 4-3 in 10 innings. |
