April 5, 2006 Baton Rouge, LA -- A four run fourth inning rally by the Jackson State University Lady Tigers lifted them to their first victory in three tries over the Lady Jaguars 5-4 today at Lady Jaguar field. Southern (16-20, 9-7) open the scoring up by putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning and added another in the third. Jackson State used their version of scoring by using two hits and two errors to score four runs in the top of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. The Lady tigers then added another run in the fifth to extend their lead 5-3. Southern was not out of the game yet as catcher Brittany Richardson recorded the only hit in the fifth and scored SU's last run of the of the game. Jackson State then used tough defense to hold the Blue and Gold to two hits and two left on base in the final two inngs to take a 5-4 win. Richardson finished the game 3 of 3 with two runs scored. First basemen Candice Stevens also had a good day at the plate going 3 of 3 with a run and a RBI. Pitcher Jamila Taylor ended the day with two strike outs while giving up seven hits and two base on balls. The Lady Jaguars will have a week off before they play again when they visit Thibodaux, LA to play the Lady Colonels of Nicholls State University. That game is set for April 12th at 6:00 p.m. |
