GSU EDGES SU IN SOFTBALL ACTION

Jasmone Williams ended the day 3 for 4 with three runs and an RBI.

April 11, 2008

Grambling, LA -- The Grambling State University softball teams looks very familiar as head coach Wilbert Early is a former six year assistant coach under SU head coach Nancy Marshall. His assistants include former SU pitchers Jamila Taylor and Samisha Bledsoe. Early also has former Lady Jags on his team which include Denean Woods and Sawazi Daniels. With so many Jaguar connections the week-end series between these two teams should prove eventful.

For Grambling it was as GSU's LaQuisha Woods drove in the game winning run to give the Lady Tigers a 10-9 victory today in Grambling, La at Lady Tiger field. This was the first game in the conference rivals three game week-end Western Division series.

Southern (20-15, 9-3 SWAC) was led by sophomore Jasmone Williams who finished 3- for 4 with three runs and a RBI. Woods led the way for the Lady Tigers as she ended the day 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBI's. Denean Woods had a great day at the plate as she went 2 for 5 with three runs and a RBI.

SU will try to conquer the Western Division for a fifth straight time this weekend. The Lady Jaguars only need two victories to put themselves out of reach in the SWAC West race.

Southern will complete their three game set with Grambling on Saturday, April 12th at Lady Tiger field in Grambling in double header action. The first game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
