LADY JAGUARS SET FOR SECOND ROUND ACTION



Jasmine Williams hit .538 vs. Alcorn this season.

Houston, TX - The Alcorn State University Lady Braves defeated tournament host Prairie View A&M University 1-0 in nine innings in the first game of the 2008 Southwestern Athletic Conference softball tournament. Alcorn now advances to the second round and will face Western Division champion Southern University.

On the year SU holds a 3-2 record versus the Lady Braves. SU hit .274 against Alcorn and totaled 34 runs, 34 hits, five doubles, five triples, 23 RBI's, and 52 total bases in five contests. In the two losses the Blue and Gold finished the game with six hits but could not produce enough runs as they lost 3-2 and 1-0. Sophomore pitcher Megan Hodge was the starter in both games but will not see action because of an arm injury.

Southern will see action for the first time in the tournament on Friday, April 25th at 1:00 pm. All games during the tournament are being played at the Lady Panthers field on the campus of Prairie View.
