Itta Bena, MS -- The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team placed five players on the 2006 softball All-SWAC team.

The Defensive Player of the Year award was presented to sophomoreCourtney Chappell. Chappell played in 44 games finishing with a fielding percentage of .922. She recorded 85 assists and 69 putouts. The 5-4 shortstop and second baseman from Gardena, California had a batting average of .264 while tallying 33 hits, three doubles, a home run and 15 runs batted in. She also was 9-of-9 in stolen base opportunities.

The Lady Jaguars received one of two number one seeds for winning the Western Division and will play the winner of the Prairie View A&M University and Jackson State University game which will be played on Thursday, April 27th in the first round of the 2006 SWAC tournament. SU will face the winner of that game at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 28th All games will be played on the campus of Mississippi Valley State University.
