Aaron Pitts, enters his first year as assistant volleyball coach at Southern. This is not his first stint as a collegiate volleyball coach, last season he was an assistant coach at Alcorn State under Yolonda Brown, where he helped lead the volleyball team to the Southwestern Athletic Conference postseason tournament. In 2006, he made his debut as Head Volleyball coach at Port Allen High School.

Coach Pitts has been involved in volleyball for over 19 years. His experience ranges from player and program organizer to official and coach. In 1988 he made the Y.M.C.A. Metairie Jazz Volleyball Team and played for several seasons. Later, he joined the United States Volleyball Association Delta Region, which is now called USA Volleyball Bayou Region. He played as an outside hitter and with his incredible 38" vertical he was a force to be reckoned with. In 1987, he started officiating high school volleyball in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for the Kenner Officials Association until 2002. He later spent three years with Jefferson Officials until hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans area. In 1996, he started officiating for the Sunbelt Conference . He is one of a few coaches in the south that has international volleyball experience; he was a line judge for the 1994 NORCECA Men's Volleyball tournament held at the U.N.O Lakefront Arena. He is the founder and Club Director for Cobra Volleyball Club, which is now located in Baton Rouge. Throughout the years, coach Pitts teams, both adult men's and co-ed recreation teams have dominated local leagues and have won many tournaments. Coach Pitts was a site co-coordinator for the Nike Volleyball festival that was held in Sacramento California at the U.C. Davis college campus for 2 years. Now it's called the Kapea volleyball festival and is held in Nevada.

As the assistant coach, he will work closely with the middle blockers and defense. Pitts will assist head coach Nathaniel Denu and associate head coach Carthenia Clark in putting Southern University volleyball back on top!

Coach Pitts is married to Kimberly Pitts and they have a lovely family. Aaron Pitts IV, Ariana Pitts, Eric Crawford & Amber Pitts.
