Baton Rouge, LA - Ena Panye recorded her 13th double digit kill game of the season with 19 to lead all scores in the game. SU earned their 10th victory of the season by defeating the Jackson State University Lady Tigers three games to one. Southern (10-15, 1-6 SWAC) also got a double double performance out of all-around freshman Diane Chavis. The Lafayette, LA native ended the game with 16 kills and 11 digs and her second double double of the year. Jackson State, reeling off their invitational win four days ago, came back to Seymour Gymnasium looking to grab another. The Lady Jaguars, coming off their win over Alcorn on Monday, was looking for the same thing. JSU had to score 35 points to win the first game 35-33. That was the last time The Lady Panthers would see the 30-plus figure on the night as the 125 in attendance rooted the Blue and Gold on to three straight over the Lady Tigers 30-23, 30-23, and 30-25 to win the match. This is a special year for the Lady Jaguars as the win over Jackson is the first since October 10, 2002 and also the 11 wins are the most for head coach Nathaniel Denu since the 2002 season. "We have worked really hard throughout the season, said Denu. "We have some injuries the have sidelined three of our starters so what we have accomplished, with mostly freshmen, is something special. I want to also commend all the coaches for their hard work and time they put in with the team." Southern will try to make it three straight when the Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers visit "the bluff" on Thursday, November 1st. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and the event is free and open to the public.
