Baton Rouge, LA - The Southern University Lady Jaguars will welcome the University of South Alabama Lady Jaguars to Seymour Gymnasium on Tuesday, November 6th at 7:30 p.m. This is SU's final contest of the 2007 season. Southern (11-16, 1-7 SWAC) will not make the Southwestern Athletic Conference post season volleyball tournament for the second straight year. The Blue and Gold were defeated by the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the rematch at Seymour on October 24th. UAPB's win allowed them to grab the final post season spot in Western Division. There are five teams in the Eastern and Western divisions with the top four advancing to post season play. On a positive note the Lady Jags accomplished two feats that haven't been done five seasons. They defeated Jackson State University on Halloween night, that hadn't been done since October 30, 2002, the win also gave Southern their 10th victory of the season and head coach Nathaniel Denu's best record in five seasons. Coach Denu will not lose anything as there are no seniors on the squad. Kill leader Ena Payne and assists leader Lakenya Simpson are only juniors. "We had a very good year with a very young squad," said Denu. "We could have won some of those 2-3 games but injuries hit us in the middle of the season and crippled our front line. We will go into this game just like it's our post-season." The event is free and open to public.
